Location:
In the altiplanic zone of our country is located Puno at 3,812 m.a.s.l. on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Located south-east of Peru and bordering Bolivia, bordering the departments of Madre de Dios, Cusco, Moquegua and Arequipa.
Tourist Information Puno. Puno is a department of undeniable hegemony for tourism activities in Peru, with a natural landscape of incomparable nuances, in Puno have emerged and declined different population settlements starting with the first Qelqatani and Pizacoma, followed by the Tiawanakus, Uros, Kollas, K’aris, Zapanas, Kallahuayas, Lupacas among others.
The first years of the Spanish conquest, this area was considered of great importance, due to the wealth of minerals and precious metals, which gave rise to the emergence of cities where the Spanish influence is clearly noticeable. From then on, Puno began a process of important urbanization, with accentuated migratory flows up to our days, in which the city gives a modern image but at the same time still preserves the authenticity of being located in the high plateau and in the great Collao plateau.
Upon arriving in the city of Puno, one can observe the majestic Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world, with a surface area of 8,562 square kilometers, a length of 176 km, an average width of 50 km, and a maximum depth of 284 meters. It is the habitat of native species such as fish and birds. Since millions of years ago, the men who arrived and chose its shores, islands, hills and nearby lagoons to live have been located there, reaching very high levels of culture and civilization, all of them always considered themselves as their children, worshiping the lake as a sacred mother. There is a legend that from its waters emerged Manco Ccapac and Mama Ocllo to found the empire of the Incas. Among its innumerable islands, the most visited are: Los Uros, Taquile, Amantaní and Suasi, recognized for their scenic beauty, history and customs.
The lake is not only considered as a scenic attraction, but also as a mystic of strong magnetic and esoteric attraction, which is the reason for the origin of our ancient human settlements that later gave rise to the empire of the Incas and expanded its ancestral image towards the Andean cosmos.
Our lake offers a countless number of alternatives to visit not only for its beautiful islands but also for its wonderful and attractive surroundings.
In the middle of the Totora live the Uros, a people that basically are fishermen and bird hunters, they use the totora to build their floating islands where they build their houses, which are inhabited by families that transmit their beliefs and customs from generation to generation.
Its inhabitants are Aymara-speaking and currently occupy the Titicaca National Reserve, they are also excellent builders of reed boats.
Taquile Island:
Located 40 km from the city of Puno, with a diameter of 23 km². and a maximum altitude of 4,130 m.a.s.l. Its inhabitants are mainly engaged in agriculture and have similar customs to those of the island of Taquile. Due to the existence of granitic rocks, they have specialized in cutting and carving stone, making food deposits, tables and other carvings. Likewise, the textile activity is similar to that of Taquile, both in variety and design. In the Koanos and Llaquistiti hills there are two semi-subterranean temples that were erected in honor of the fertility of the earth, places considered sacred where ceremonial rites of veneration to the earth (payments), which are performed by Yatiris or Pacos (Andean priests) were and still are practiced. Today it is visited by esoterics since there the cosmic-energetic dualism is manifested.
Amantani:
Located 35 km east of the city of Puno, with an area of 11.6 km ². at an altitude of 3,906 meters above sea level. The main attraction is their way of life as they still preserve their ancestral customs such as their clothing which is very original and colorful.
Their daily life revolves around their main livelihood activities such as agriculture, fishing and textiles known worldwide for its delicate and fine weaving. In Taquile you can stay several days staying in the houses of the locals, characterized by their hospitality and kindness. Located 70 km from Puno, via lake and 155 km by land (cambria) north-east of Lake Titicaca.
Small private island where an important integral project of ecotourism, agro ecology, culture, recreation and rest is being developed. Due to its special characteristics it is considered a private protected area. This mostly advanced project, seeks that the guests observe and participate, being witnesses and actors of the most consistent and serious proposal of ecotourism and culture in the Titicaca.
